What makes Evangel Live so special and some history about the event

February 24, 2026

Evangel Live began with an idea in 2022. ECCS PTO officers at the time had a vision that a variety show would be a great fundraiser for our school, and the first show was held in February 2023.

While it is a fundraiser, more importantly, it’s a community event. “I think that people are always surprised by how good the show is and how much fun they have,” said Sandi Luna, ECCS Drama teacher who was the PTO president during the first two years of the show. She continues to be involved in helping with auditions and planning and executing the show. “For the two hours that the show is happening, we are all rooting for the performers to do well. There are lots of smiles and laughter. It’s entertaining and really does feel like a family get together.”

One of the most unique things about Evangel Live is that it’s a variety show, which means you really never know what type of acts are going to be performed. Over the years, there have been instrumental performances with violins, bagpipes, and piano, and there have been raps, drama performances, and poetry recitations. Singing acts have also been popular with soloists, family duets, and choirs.

Another unique element is that Logic & Rhetoric (L&R) Houses have the opportunity to work together to come up with their own act. These have varied greatly over the years with creative skits, original songs, dances, and other types of performances.

“I think it’s really exciting how the show always comes together as something special every year,” Mrs. Luna said. “Evangel Live is not a talent show; there are no prizes for the individual acts. Therefore, the performers are performing just for the joy of it. I think this teaches excellence and intentionality, that we are to do all things to the glory of God, no matter what it is. It doesn’t have to be a specifically Christian song or poem in order to honor Him.”

She adds that there’s something very special about choosing to share the gifts and skills that God has given us with others, expecting nothing in return.

Evangel Live fits in so well with all of the
ECCS Distinctives. It is an event that is intentional, countercultural, and fruitful in many ways, but Mrs. Luna says that relational is the distinctive that really stands out.

“One of my favorite parts of Evangel Live is how the older students support and cheer for the younger students. They usually applaud the loudest for the youngest and that always brings a smile to our young performers’ faces.”

It’s an event that everyone will enjoy as a part of our ECCS community. In addition to the entertainment from the performances, PTO will have free pizza this year before the show and will hold a raffle throughout the event. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time for $6.00 per person through family FACTs accounts, or at the door the night of the event for $8.00 per person.

All proceeds from the event go to the ECCS Principals’s Wishlist Funds to be used by our Grammar and L&R Principals.
