ECCS students work together to be the hands and feet of Jesus

Throughout the last few weeks of the school year, the ECCS community joined our After-Hours Care (AHC) program in completing a mission project for Grace Klein.

The project involved collecting shoes to be delivered to Kwathu Children's Home School in Zambia and collecting aluminum cans to be recycled by Grace Klein. The money that Grace Klein receives from recycling will go to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables for families in need.

Grace Klein is an educational and charitable non-profit that helps provide relief to the poor, disadvantaged, and underprivileged by sharing resources and building relationships with individuals, families, and communities. They work with businesses, ministries, and churches to share resources for meeting physical and spiritual needs locally and globally.

Early this summer, several 7th grade students assisted AHC Director, Mrs. Chantelle LaPore, in counting the shoes and cans and delivering them to Grace Klein.

ECCS collected 1,559 aluminum cans and 107 pairs of shoes! Mrs. LaPore says she was so pleased with this response and she appreciates the efforts of all those who supported the project by collecting cans and donating shoes.

“I was thrilled with the response to this. It started as a little project for me to lead our aftercare kids in giving back, but word trickled out and next thing I knew the entire school was onboard,” she says. “It is important for us to teach our students not just to argue/defend their beliefs but to actually live them. Our actions as adult leaders speak much louder than our words.”

The Logic & Rhetoric (grades 6th-12th) Service Club helped coordinate donations and facilitated a competition between the Houses for the collection of cans.

“It’s amazing to see what our school is capable of when we all work together to benefit a wonderful local organization,” Mrs. LaPore says. “This is such a great example of how we can be the hands and feet of Jesus.”
